Cluster III: Phosphor in der Synthese und Katalyse
Das Cluster „Phosphor in der Synthese und Katalyse“ beschäftigt sich mit der Erforschung grundlegender Fragestellungen in Hinsicht auf die Struktur und Reaktivität phosphorhaltiger Verbindungen. Phosphor ist eines der Schlüsselelemente in der Synthese und Katalyse. Aufgrund der außerordentlichen Variabilität des Phosphors bezüglich seiner Oxidations- (–3 bis +5) und Koordinationszahlen sind phosphorhaltige Verbindungen unterschiedlichster Strukturen und Eigenschaften bekannt.
Phosphorhaltige Verbindungen finden Einsatz in fast allen Bereichen der Chemie. In der metallorganischen und Koordinationschemie spielen sie eine zentrale Rolle als Liganden, beispielsweise in Übergangsmetallkomplexen. Diese Komplexe finden sowohl in der Forschung als auch in der Industrie Anwendung in der Katalyse. Durch den Einsatz von Katalysatoren wird die effiziente Durchführung vieler Reaktionen und somit der selektive Zugang zu zahlreichen Produkten überhaupt erst ermöglicht. Im Sinne einer nachhaltigen Chemie leisten Katalysatoren mit P-haltigen Liganden einen großen Beitrag zur Entwicklung energie- und ressourceneffizienter Prozesse.
Große Bedeutung besitzen phosphorhaltige Verbindungen als Organokatalysatoren und vor allem als Reagenzien in der organischen Synthese. Ohne sie wäre die Herstellung von Natur- und Wirkstoffen z.B. in der medizinischen Chemie oft nicht möglich. Angefangen von Pflanzen- über Flammschutzmitteln bis hin zu Leuchtdioden enthalten Produkte in fast allen Bereichen unseres Lebens das Element Phosphor.
